My interest in investing, money management, and entrepreneurship goes back to my high school years, long before I ever traded a futures contract. From early on, my goal was straightforward: build something of my own while managing my own capital intelligently.

Before transitioning into finance, I spent over twelve years in specialty chemical manufacturing while also operating a manufacturer representative agency and helping build my wife’s maternal health business. It was during that period that I came across the story of Richard Dennis and the Turtle Traders, a pivotal experiment demonstrating that a disciplined, rules-based approach to trend following could be systematically taught and replicated. That discovery led me deeper into the world of managed futures, and the more I studied it, the more I recognized it as the framework I had been looking for.

My background in specialty chemical manufacturing gave me a foundation I didn’t initially recognize as relevant. I spent over a decade using datasets, modeling, and precise measurements to manage complex, dynamic systems in real time. The discipline required to control a chemical process and the discipline required to manage a systematic trading strategy are more similar than most people would expect.

That convergence of experiences led me to pursue my CTA registration and found J.D. Turner Capital, a decision I haven’t looked back from.
